Activities in Lucerne
The heart of central Switzerland
Lucerne is the centre of central Switzerland and capital of the Canton of Lucerne. Located on Lake Lucerne, it is a magnet for tourists from all over the world. The old town, Kapellbrücke and Jesuit church make up a picture-perfect Switzerland. Although it offers a lot, Lucerne is a small town — most attractions, such as the Kapellbrücke, Jesuit church, old town, KKL or the university, are within walking distance.
Kapellbrücke
The Kapellbrücke is the town's landmark — the second largest and oldest covered wooden bridge, connecting the new and old town across the Lake Lucerne bay. Inside, a cycle of paintings shows Swiss history. With Shuttler you reach it directly from Zürich and Interlaken; the Pilatusplatz stop (Edge E) is a few metres away.
Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Luzern (KKL)
The KKL is an astonishing building by French architect Jean Nouvel, right on the Lake Lucerne bay, offering space for congresses and a great culinary offer. Its concert auditorium is seen as one of the best in the world for classical concerts, and hosts the Lucerne Festival each August. The Pilatusplatz stop (Edge E) is around 200 metres away.
